Silver Donald Cameron will be giving the Opening Keynote at BuildGreen Atlantic’s Opening Reception.

Silver Donald Cameron is known from coast to coast as a speaker who uses humour and storytelling to enliven his provocative thought on a wide range of important issues.

Silver Donald is one of Canada’s most versatile and widely-published authors, whose work has appeared in magazines, on radio, on television and on the stage. His 17 books include the award-winning Wind, Whales and Whisky and The Living Beach, and the thriller Dragon Lady. His most recent books are Sailing Away from Winter: A Cruise from Nova Scotia to Florida and Beyond, and A Million Futures: The Remarkable Legacy of the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation.

Silver Donald has been a columnist with The Globe and Mail and he wrote a weekly column for the Halifax Sunday Herald from 1998 to 2011. He is currently the executive producer and host of an innovative subscription website called TheGreenInterview.com, which features video interviews with leading environmentalists from around the world and is distributed to 15,000 libraries internationally.

Dr. Cameron has served as writer-in-residence at three universities, and has held teaching positions at Dalhousie University, the University of British Columbia and the University of New Brunswick. He was the first Dean of the School of Community Studies at the University College of Cape Breton, and he holds honorary degrees from Cape Breton University and the University of King’s College.

During the 1990s Silver Donald Cameron was intensely involved with community economic development in Isle Madame, Nova Scotia, his full-time home for 35 years. He served on the Board of Development Isle Madame, and he is the founding chairman of Telile Communications, a successful community television and video production studio.

Dr. Cameron now lives in Halifax with his wife, the writer Marjorie Simmins, and their Shetland Sheepdog, MacTavish.
